Transponder Highway

Most of the highways on Mars were built in a period of less than ten years. That's no small accomplishment considering that there is about the same amount of dry land on Mars as there is on Earth. Every highway consists not only of a smooth surface, but a series of transponders that can automatically guide rovers while the passengers sleep. This also allows for cargo rovers to travel around without the need of a human driver.
