Mars presents visitors with isolation unparalleled on Earth. You can be literally hundreds of kilometers from the next human being. With nothing but rock, dust and sky, the planet strikes a chord with many people. They go out wandering for weeks at a time.

Here a small family stops in Hoodoo Canyon to enjoy the pristine Martian landscape. Small plants, insects and other animals will soon add themselves to such scenes.

It's at about the same time that humans will be able to shed their helmets and walk freely on the surface, the planet will resemble Earth more than the Mars that existed only decades before.
